Local Ride Maps

Tired of the same old rides?

Working under the assumption that newer cyclists may need some ideas for changing up their rides, the MCC reverses the alphabet and puts our great C rides first. Note that other groupings get longer in distance and also include more difficult terrain.

C Rides ( 17 - 25 miles )

  • A relatively flat out-and-back that journeys out towards Alstead before turning around and returning to Keene. Map.
  • A 20 mile loop through Swanzey that is flat and fast; features a return to Keene that utilizes the bike paths to avoid downtown. Map.
  • A Monadnock area classic, this route features a slow ascent to the base of Bingham Hill and a tough .7 mile up Bingham Hill itself; this is arguably the toughest "C" ride that can be offered. Map.
  • A 25 mile loop that traverses most of West Swanzey and includes a short climb of Ash Hill; rides in this area do not get much flatter that this one. Map.
  • A flat and fast 25 mile loop for those days when climbing is not a desired objective. Map.

B Rides ( 22 - 44 miles )

  • An early season "B" ride for those times when a short route (22 miles) is desired with some serious punch (ascents of Hurricane Road and Edgar Road totaling 1600 feet of climbing). Map.
  • A 26 mile rolling loop that visits both Troy and Marlborough before a large downhill descent back to Keene. Map.
  • A rolling 33 mile loop that climbs both Old Walpole Road and Walpole Valley road from the west that includes 2500 feet of climbing. Map.
  • A nice 35 mile ride that is essentially and out-and-back to Winchester with a small journey into West Swanzey; the only climb on this route is the short ascent of Ash Hill. Map.
  • A 35 mile ride that tackles the meandering climb to the top of Fish Hatchery Road; features the super fast descent down Route 32 back into Keene. Map.
  • This picturesque 36 mile ride has a lovely stretch of pavement that overlooks the Connecticut River that is sandwiched between two solid climbs (Hurricane Road and Streeter Hill). Map.
  • A 39 mile ride that tackles Fish Hatchery Road and some gentle rollers into Troy before the ride turns into a super fast descent back down Route 12 into Keene. Map.
  • A fun ride that traverses the rural roads of Nelson and Harrisville and features rolling climbs that add up to 2900 feet of climbing over the course of the route. Map.

A Rides ( 36 - 53 miles )

  • A deceptively hard 36 mile ride that is essentially one big climb out to Walpole and one big climb back to Keene from Alstead; be prepared to go either really slow or really fast on this ride. Map.
  • A solid 37 mile featuring 2 tough climbs (Gilsum Mine Road and Alstead Hill); a descent of nearly 4 miles at the end of the ride makes the climbing more palatable. Map.
  • A challenging 42 mile with 2700 feet of climbing, this route features ascents of Route 63 out of Hinsdale and Hurricane Road from the Westmoreland side. Map.
  • This ride should require a waiver; at 42 miles and 4500 feet of climbing, you need to enjoy pain in order to enjoy this ride.  (Note: The MCC has never done this ride--this is from my personal collection of "fun" loops for weekday evenings :) Map.
  • A 45 mile route that heads out into Fitzwilliam/Marlborough before returning to Keene via Route 124/101; while this ride doesn't feature any of the areas legendary climbs, it still packs some punch with 2800 feet of climbing. Map.
  • A 48 mile loop with 3100 feet of climbing that features Mt. Monadnock as a picturesque backdrop for most of the ride. Map.
  •  This 53 mile ride can be done on a Wednesday group ride but be prepared for lots of climbing (4000+ feet including Pitcher Mountain) and a screaming descent back into Keene afterwards. Map.
